Brief

Oil's 8% slide sets the tone

The single biggest thing in this feed is the oil crash. The market data carried on the Investing.com pages shows WTI at 95.79, down 8.00%, and Brent at 103.94, down 8.37%. One of the site's own headlines attributes it to hopes of U.S.-Iran talks, though none of the pieces read in full explain the move directly. The knock-on was visible across the board: BP down 4.37% and Shell down 2.86% on a FTSE 100 that still closed up 0.29%, Exxon down 4.01%, and a headline noting oil and gas exploration and refining names as the day's sector laggards. On the other side of the ledger, the Choice Hotels article notes cheaper energy as an indirect help to travel and lodging. Gold futures rose 1.44% to 3,955.15 and silver 2.64% to 50.578, with headline-only commentary pieces asking whether that is a rebound or a dead cat bounce and what safe-haven currencies would do if gold broke lower.

Tech and AI names under heavy pressure

The other dominant story is a continued AI-related selloff. The Dow closed up 0.42% at 51,986.30 while the S&P 500 fell 0.49% to 7,542.92 and the Nasdaq dropped 1.07%, with VIX up 10.30% to 21.42. The movers tables show Lumentum down 18.61%, Marvell down 12.72%, Astera Labs down 11.22%, Oracle down 8.85%, Intel down 8.80%, CoreWeave down 8.60%, AMD down 7.52% and Micron down 5.78%. CoreWeave hit a 52-week low of $51.22, 63% below its $138.36 high and down 59.24% over the year; the article flags fast cash burn, earnings eight days out, and a split analyst picture, with BofA at Buy and $140 citing roughly $129 billion in remaining performance obligations and a need for about $20 billion in extra funding, Cantor Overweight at $176, against cuts from Raymond James to $75 from $125, UBS to $105 from $120 and Morgan Stanley to $70 from $99, all on AI financing and confidence concerns. Headline-only items in the same vein: Bernstein naming stocks to buy on the view that data centre political risk is overstated, Nomura flagging a tech pocket as shelter from AI spending pressure, BofA keeping software top picks, and a piece asking why the market has become so unforgiving of AI earnings.

Choice Hotels beats and raises

Choice Hotels was the clearest single-stock story read in full. The stock rallied 4.7% intraday after third-quarter 2026 adjusted EPS of $2.33 beat consensus and revenue of $458.3 million came in about 2.2% to 2.5% ahead of forecasts, up 2.5% year on year. Management lifted full-year U.S. and global RevPAR growth guidance to 1.5%–2.5% from 0%–1.25% and raised adjusted EBITDA guidance to $641–651 million. CEO Dom Dragisich said October U.S. RevPAR was running about 7% above a year ago. U.S. franchise agreements awarded were up 24% year on year, and the extended-stay segment passed its 600th hotel with a 13th straight quarter of double-digit net rooms growth. Consensus rating on the stock remains Hold.

A long list of 52-week lows

Several names hit 52-week lows, all covered in short wire pieces. Centrus Energy fell to $96.80, down 71.9% over twelve months and 75% from a $390 level reached months ago, leaving a $1.98 billion market cap; recent coverage is split, with Texas Capital initiating Buy at $151, Guggenheim Buy at $167, TD Cowen Hold at $120 on capital costs and competition, and Needham cutting its target to $206 from $262, alongside its roughly $116 million acquisition of Westerman Holdings. BKV hit $20.03, down 17.67% on the year and 39% off its $32.81 high, ahead of earnings in three days; Truist has a $34 target and Gerdes upgraded to Buy at $29 after a $575 million convertible issue. Infleqtion fell to $8.38, down 51.64% over a year, despite record Q2 revenue of $12.6 million, up 116%, a raised full-year outlook near $43 million and a $0.12 loss per share attributed to hiring and technology spending. Pampa Energia hit $69.32, down 21.3% on the year, even after Q2 EPS of $3.20 against $2.21 expected and revenue of $746 million; Citi keeps a Buy and $121 target, forecasting 2026 EBITDA near $1.6 billion. Headline-only lows were also flagged at Usar ($8.87) and Mara ($6.44).

Insurers at the other end

Insurance names ran the opposite way. RLI hit a 52-week high of $67.28, up 20% over a year and 33% in six months, after Q3 operating earnings of $0.86 beat the $0.51 forecast even though revenue of $476.96 million missed $533.51 million; the combined ratio was 86.2% and net investment income rose 13% to $46.7 million. KBW raised its target to $74 from $69 at Outperform, while Wells Fargo went to $53 from $51 but stayed Underweight. Safety Insurance hit an all-time high of $104.35, up 58.32% over the year and 40% in six months, with the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period on its MAPFRE U.S.A. merger now expired. Selective Insurance, Crown Holdings and American Water Works also made 52-week highs per headline-only items.

Deals, filings and smaller items

Headline-only corporate news includes Children's Place weighing a bankruptcy sale or liquidation per Bloomberg, EVgo receiving a $2-per-share buyout proposal from LS Power, Bright Minds falling as BTIG cut its target on a clinical hold, and Lumentum drawing opposite calls off the Marvell acquisition, with Mizuho lowering its target and Raymond James upgrading on deal value. Also on the list: a court blocking Papaya Gaming U.S. account transfers in the Skillz case, Sherwin-Williams adding $75 million of borrowing capacity, Upwork launching on-demand hiring in beta, the U.S. Treasury cutting its fourth-quarter borrowing estimate to $618 billion, and an INOVIO FDA accelerated approval headline alongside the stock's 176.92% jump in the movers table. Tuesday brings AMD, Amgen and Priceline earnings plus manufacturing PMI and JOLTS.

The rest is noise

A large share of the 200 items is routine SEC filing stubs (Forms 4, 8-K and 144 for Alphabet, MongoDB, Sherwin-Williams, Moody's, Agilent and others) with no content beyond the filing name, a long run of TradingView chart posts on gold, bitcoin, EURUSD and similar, commodity wrap headlines on corn, soybeans, wheat, hogs and cattle, and a block of Trump Truth Social posts endorsing South Carolina candidates. None of that carries market substance.
