The full-text items contained nothing

Worth saying up front: the twenty items flagged as full-text reads in this section are all Nasdaq economic calendar pages that returned boilerplate rather than data. Every one of them loaded as "Data is currently not available" with the site's cookie notice and watchlist instructions attached. So for the BoJ decision and Outlook Report, the China PMIs, the Japan CPI and labour prints, and the Korea output numbers, all I actually have is what the item line itself carries: BoJ consensus 1.25% against a previous 1.25%, China manufacturing PMI consensus 50.1 unchanged and non-manufacturing 50.5 against 50.2 prior, Japan unemployment seen at 2.5% and Tokyo CPI consensus 3.3% versus 2.7% previously, with Tokyo core seen easing to 2.6%. Korea's prior readings were weak, industrial production at -4.8% and retail sales -1.8%. No confirmation of actuals in the material.

US data dump, growth firm and inflation softer than feared

The US calendar lines carry the most substance today. GDP came in at 3.4% against a 3.2% consensus and 2.2% prior, while the GDP price index printed 2.2% versus 3.2% expected and 6.1% before. PCE prices landed at 2.1% against a 3.4% consensus and 5.0% prior, with core PCE prices at 2.50% versus 2.40% expected, down from 3.30%. Monthly core PCE was in line at 0.3%. The consumer side was softer: personal spending 0.5% against 0.6% expected and 0.9% prior, personal income 0.2% versus 0.3%, and real personal consumption flat at 0.0% after 0.5%. Labour remains tight, with initial claims at 194K against 198K expected and continuing claims 1,701K below the 1,720K consensus. Atlanta Fed GDPNow shows 3.2%. Still ahead, the Employment Cost Index is seen at 0.8% from 0.9%, and Chicago PMI is expected at 54.8, down sharply from 58.8.

Yields fell on the data, auctions cleared lower

A Deltaone post reports the 10-year yield down 6.22bp at 4.927% and the 2-year down 7.05bp at 4.586% after the economic data. The 7-year auction cleared at 4.894% versus 5.085% previously, a meaningful step down, while bills were roughly unchanged at 4.020% on the 8-week and 3.910% on the 4-week. Fed balance sheet items show assets at 6,746B from 6,754B and reserve balances at 2.895T from 2.969T. Daly speaks today. One headline, from Investing.com, says new economic data challenges the Fed chief's not-too-hot view, and separately a TradingView piece frames the dollar index under a hawkish Fed heading. That tension, soft inflation prints against commentary about hike fears, is unresolved in this material.

Gold broke $4,000, oil up on Hormuz

Kitco reports spot gold and silver sharply lower in early US trading Friday, with gold below $4,000, attributing it to renewed attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz that pushed crude higher. A second Kitco headline cites Metals Focus saying silver could lose further ground against gold as the physical market weakens, with both metals struggling against persistent inflation pressure and higher bond yields. A large cluster of TradingView technical posts tracks the same break, variously citing a 3½-month low, a 60-day low, and levels around 3942 to 4025. Those are chart commentary, not reporting. On the oil side, OilPrice has a headline on high crude prices setting up a new wave of North Sea mergers.

European inflation came in below forecast almost everywhere

Germany's preliminary October CPI rose 2.8% year over year against a 3.0% forecast, and fell 0.2% month over month where a 0.1% rise was expected. Harmonised CPI also came in at 2.8%. State-level readings had already pointed to a national fall. Poland dropped to 3.5%, below forecasts. Against that, France climbed to 3.4%, Italy jumped to 5.4%, and Spain held steady at 4.9%, so the disinflation is not uniform. The ECB left rates unchanged, main rate 2.65%, deposit facility 2.50%, marginal lending 2.90%, all in line. Panetta is quoted across three separate Investing.com items saying further hikes may be needed to stop inflation, and an ECB survey shows inflation expectations rising for 2026 and 2027. UBS has published a view on how much further the ECB could go. Lagarde and Lane both speak. Euro zone sentiment data was soft: the composite survey at 96.9 against 97.5 expected, services sentiment 5.3 versus 5.9, consumer confidence -17.9, and selling price expectations up to 24.8 from 20.8.

BoJ holds but signals more

Investing.com reports the BoJ kept rates steady as expected and said CPI inflation is now at target, with a second item noting it signalled further hikes. A TradingView post notes dollar-yen lower after that signal. CFTC positioning shows JPY net long at 69.9K prior, the outlier among the currency lines, which are otherwise heavily short: EUR -134.5K, AUD -127.3K, GBP -80.4K, CAD -74.7K, NZD -58.1K.

UK credit data soft, BoE expected to hike

Every UK lending line missed: mortgage approvals 53.44K against 54.00K, mortgage lending 3.87B versus 4.20B, consumer credit 1.914B versus 2.200B, net lending to individuals 5.800B versus 6.200B, and M4 money supply 0.1% against 0.3%. Bank of America expects a BoE hike on Thursday. Goldman sees a Riksbank hike in November with Norges Bank on hold.

Positioning and the rest

The CFTC lines are all prior-week figures with no new reading attached: S&P 500 net short at -142.7K against Nasdaq 100 net long 50.7K, gold 199.9K, crude 89.3K, natural gas -241.3K, corn 286.7K and soybeans 246.6K. Brazil's fiscal numbers improved at the margin, budget surplus -5.500B from -10.000B, though net debt-to-GDP ticked up to 70.0% from 69.3%. US natural gas storage built 80B against a 75B consensus. Two Truth Social posts assert inflation is down and incomes up; they are claims, not data. The remainder of the section is a long tail of TradingView chart setups on gold, EURUSD, the Nasdaq, bitcoin and various crosses, which carry no reported news.
