What the full-text reads actually contained

A caveat first: the twenty items flagged as full-text reads are all Nasdaq economic calendar entries, and every one of them returned the same page boilerplate rather than article content. There is no analysis behind them. What follows uses the figures carried in the item lines themselves, which is all those entries really say.

Yields drop hard, hike pricing unwinds

The biggest move in the section is in Treasuries. The 10-year fell below 5% for the first time since September 23, down 14.97 basis points to 4.996%. The 5-year dropped 14.33bp to 4.827% and the 3-year 13.93bp to 4.771%, both the lowest since mid-to-late September. Alongside that, traders no longer fully price a Fed rate hike before end-2026. Note the direction of travel there: this backdrop is one where a hike was being priced, not a cut, and the tech selloff is what pulled it out. One headline links the two directly, saying the rout in tech boosted bonds and dented rate hike bets. Bill auctions came a touch cheaper as well, 8-week at 4.015% against 4.050% prior and 4-week at 3.945% versus 4.000%, though the 20-year bond auction went the other way at 5.469% against 5.420%.

AI selloff and the Japan CPI shock

Asia was the source of the risk-off. Headlines report Asian stocks falling with South Korea hit hardest by the AI rout, and Japan unsettled by a strong CPI print. Japanese core inflation crossed the BOJ target, with the calendar line showing consensus 2.1% against a 1.7% prior, and two separate items call it a nine-month high. One headline states the print cements a near-term rate hike chance for the BOJ. Citi, in a headline-only item, expects USD/JPY to stay range-bound around the BoJ decision.

Gold down about 2% on oil-driven inflation fears

Gold fell roughly 2% to a two-month low, and the explanation given is unusual: it dropped despite falling yields. Kitco's reports attribute it to renewed attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz pushing crude higher, which revived inflation worries and the risk of delayed Fed cuts. One wire item puts gold at $4,083, down 1.3%, quoting Capital.com's Monte Safieddine describing a difficult cocktail for the metal. Silver fell sharply too. There is a very heavy cluster of TradingView gold charts in the list, almost all leaning bearish around the $4,000 and $3,978 levels, but those are headline-only and I'd treat them as noise.

France's debt premium blows out

French 10-year yields hit 5.142%, the highest since 2002, with the spread over Bunds widening to 173 basis points, the widest since 2011. A separate line puts the risk premium at 175bp. The stated drivers are budget uncertainty, political instability and violent protests. This sits against a separate item flagging mounting eurozone troubles weighing on the euro, and five questions for the ECB framed around a French test.

US data was mixed, Michigan still to come

Initial jobless claims came in at 194K against 200K expected, with the four-week average at 197.75K, though continuing claims rose to 1,728K from 1,703K and beat the 1,720K consensus. The Kansas City Fed composite slipped to 11 from 14, under the 12 consensus, and its manufacturing index to 16 from 20. The Leading Index was flat at 0.0% against -0.1% expected. Michigan sentiment is pending with consensus at 46.3 versus 48.1 prior, current conditions seen dropping to 44.7 from 50.9, and inflation expectations ticking up on both horizons, 4.7% at one year and 3.5% at five.

Central banks elsewhere

Russia held its key rate at 14%, in line with consensus, with inflation concerns cited in the headline. Turkey cut 100 basis points to 36%. South Korea's decision is listed with consensus 3.00% unchanged. On the Fed's own balance sheet, total assets edged down to 6,754B from 6,756B, while reserve balances fell more noticeably to 2.969 trillion from 3.030 trillion.

Canada and commodities

Canadian producer prices ran hot, IPPI at 2.0% against 0.9% expected and raw materials at 27.0% versus 22.9% prior. A headline ties the firmer loonie to oil prices and BoC rate hike bets, and a separate chart item references a hawkish BoC pressuring USD/CAD. On the EIA weeklies, gasoline inventories drew 2.952M against an expected 0.4M draw while distillates built 1.675M against an expected 1.2M draw. Natural gas storage came in at 77B versus 80B expected.

Soft Europe surveys and the week ahead

Eurozone consumer confidence missed at -17.9 against -17.0 expected and -16.8 prior, and UK CBI industrial trends orders collapsed to -32 from -9, far worse than the -20 consensus. Flash PMIs across France, Germany, the eurozone and the UK are all pending with consensus marginally below prior readings in every case. Two week-ahead pieces, one from Investing.com and one from Schaeffer's, both frame the coming week around the October Fed decision meeting the AI trade.
