Deal flow is the real story in the feed

The busiest thread today is M&A, and the largest is Silgan Holdings. Silgan is combining its Metal Containers segment and its Food and Beverage Flat Cap Closures business with Trivium Packaging, in a deal valuing Trivium at roughly $3.4 billion enterprise value. The combined entity, Silgan Metal Containers and Closures, leaves Silgan with 60% control while funds tied to American Industrial Partners put in about $1.0 billion of cash equity for the other 40%. Silgan takes roughly $2.3 billion in cash proceeds, earmarked for retiring debt, and says the deal should be at least 15% accretive to adjusted EPS and free cash flow with $225 million of synergies by year three. Its Dispensing and Custom Containers units get reorganised into a new wholly-owned Silgan Dispensing Solutions segment. The stock was up 5.6% pre-open on the news; Wells Fargo kept an Overweight rating while moving its target to $52. A separate headline-only item says Ardagh Group is selling its 42% stake in Trivium for $90 million, which is the other side of the same transaction.

MKS sells Ophir Optics to TTM

MKS is selling its Ophir Optics business to TTM Technologies for $650 million in cash, with both sides putting out releases. Ophir Optics makes high-precision infrared thermal imaging and laser optics for defence, security and industrial customers, operating from Israel and Romania. MKS frames the price as over 18 times projected FY2026 adjusted EBITDA for the unit and says the point is to capitalise on value created and strengthen the balance sheet; TTM describes the same price as about 10.3 times expected FY2027 adjusted EBITDA before synergies, and expects it to be immediately accretive to adjusted EBITDA margin and non-GAAP diluted EPS. TTM will fund it from cash, future cash flow and its revolver, alongside a previously announced $400 million capacity expansion in Asia. Closing is expected in Q2 2027. The deal excludes MKS's Ophir Instruments laser characterisation business and the Ophir brand itself. Worth noting the article pages show both tickers lower, MKSI around 6% and TTMI around 7%.

KKR exits railcar leasing to Ares

KKR is selling Infinity Transportation, an Atlanta-based railcar and intermodal lessor, to Ares Management for about $2.9 billion. Infinity owns and manages roughly 50,000 railcars leased to more than 350 customers across the US, Canada and Mexico, and KKR says book value is up 150% since 2021 under its ownership. Mike Roth of Ares Infrastructure Equity cited reshoring of manufacturing and demand for resilient supply chains as the rationale, and said Ares plans to support fleet growth after the expected Q1 2027 close.

Smaller deals and corporate actions

Data I/O is buying V-TEK and A&J Programming for about $23 million, paid in cash and roughly $3 million (about 1.12 million shares) of stock, funded partly from a previously announced $13.25 million securities offering, with closing expected this week. Osiris One Metals took an option on the Island Range copper-gold project on Vancouver Island, issuing 8 million shares for the vendor and committing to $1,375,000 of cash payments and $530,000 of expenditures over three to four years, plus an equal value in shares; the ground is 8,535 hectares near historic high-grade copper workings, with no resource defined. Headline-only items in the same vein: Centrus Energy buying Westerman for $116 million with shares climbing, Blackstone closing an $8.7 billion energy transition fund, Discovery Senior Living acquiring Sunshine Retirement Living, Valor Energy buying an 18MW computing centre in Ohio, and a Xerox shareholder pushing for a review of the financial services unit.

Biotech, mixed outcomes

argenx reported that its Phase 3 ALKIVIA study of VYVGART Hytrulo hit its primary endpoint in autoimmune myositis, with a 15.4-point greater improvement in mean Total Improvement Score versus placebo at week 52 (47.95 vs 32.56, p=0.0011) across the combined IMNM and dermatomyositis population, improvements showing from week 4 and holding through a mandated steroid taper. The trial randomised 265 patients, 175 treated in the Phase 3 portion, and the data go to ACR Convergence in November. There are no approved treatments for IMNM today. Going the other way, Enlivex is cutting about 60% of its workforce, winding down all R&D not tied to its Phase 2b Allocetra knee osteoarthritis trial, cutting management pay 20% and CEO pay 40%, with topline six-month data expected by mid-2027. Atossa shares began trading with one stapled contingent value right attached per share, entitling holders to 25% of net proceeds from the sale of its first qualifying priority review voucher, capped at $50 million and applying to a PRV awarded on or before 31 December 2036; no PRV has been awarded and no product is approved. Vaxart added retired Navy Vice Admiral Raquel Bono, former Director of the Defense Health Agency, to its board under a July 2026 cooperation agreement with a stockholder group. Headline-only biotech items include EyePoint cutting 53% of staff after a Phase 3 miss, FDA acceptances for UroGen in bladder cancer and CorMedix's rezafungin, a Clene NDA filing for ALS, J&J Tremfya Crohn's fistula data, and Biogen Empaveli data to come.

AI and chips under pressure

The backdrop across these pages is a tech selloff: the Nasdaq is shown down 2.14% and the S&P 500 down 1.09%, with the FTSE 100 off 1.18% and a headline attributing the UK slip to the US tech rout. Against that, Applied Digital rose 8% after Form 4 filings showed President Jason Zhang bought 300,000 shares on 16 October at a weighted average $18.86 and CEO and Chairman Wes Cummins bought 55,803 shares at $18.04, leaving Cummins with 5,874,453 shares directly plus 17.6 million held through Cummins Family Ltd. Headline-only items in this cluster: Goldman Sachs upgrading CoreWeave to Buy with a $106 target after a roughly 25% rout, JPMorgan lifting Intel on execution under Tan, a record $7 billion inflow into a leveraged chip fund during the selloff, Tenstorrent more than doubling its valuation to $6.2 billion, Morgan Stanley's Michael Wilson saying the selloff may be nearing its end, and Goldman flagging defensive positioning with its sentiment indicator at the 46th percentile.

Quantinuum error-correction claim

Quantinuum said it reached logical fidelity of 99.9995% on its Helios machine, about five errors per million operations, which it describes as ten times better than its own September record and a hundred times better than results Google Quantum AI reported on superconducting hardware. The result used a color code with up to 37 physical qubits per logical qubit, against 10 for the earlier Helix code, and logical errors fell by a factor of 12 with each increase in code distance. CEO Rajeeb Hazra said this proves the architecture needed for universal fault tolerance, and the company says the performance is in the target range for Apollo, its planned fault-tolerant machine due by 2029.

The rest of the feed

The remaining bulk of the 200 items is low-signal: a large number of TradingView chart posts on gold, Bitcoin, EURUSD and the indices, routine SEC filings (including a BioLargo DEF 14A with no content beyond the filing notice), Indian earnings call transcripts (ixigo, UltraTech, Oberoi Realty), and assorted small-cap announcements. Three macro headlines are worth flagging without claiming detail: oil prices dipping as Trump waives Russia sanctions, Iraq saying October exports have run near 3.4m b/d against ~3.7m pre-war, and major European telcos exploring a joint satellite spectrum bid.
