Brief

The backdrop behind most of today's single-stock moves

Nearly every full-text piece in this feed is an Investing.com "why is X moving" note, and they all lean on the same tape: the Nasdaq down roughly 2.3%, the S&P 500 off about 1.1%, and the VIX up around 10%, with heavy losses in Alphabet and Intel driving a broad risk-off tone and renewed questions about returns on AI infrastructure spending. The articles also reference a Fed that held rates steady at its October meeting, Q3 US GDP at a 3.4% annualised rate against a 3.2% consensus, and a hotter-than-expected PCE print. Headline-only items in the same feed point to gold falling 2% to about $3,939 an ounce, its lowest since November 2025, silver down 5.3% near $49.63, Brent near $117 after a tanker fire in the Strait of Hormuz, and a Binance hack that halted withdrawals and hit crypto-linked names. Read that as the shared driver under most of what follows.

Alphatec down about a third on biologics shortfall

The sharpest move covered in full was Alphatec Holdings, down 32.3% pre-open to $7.70. Q3 adjusted EPS came in at $0.09 against $0.10 expected and revenue at $221.17m versus $225.44m, with CEO Pat Miles attributing the miss directly to lower biologics attachment reducing revenue per surgical case. Full-year 2026 revenue guidance was cut to roughly $862m from about $882m, with biologics revenue now seen flat year on year. Needham cut its target to $12 from $14, TD Cowen to $10 from $13, and Stifel to $11 from $13, all three keeping constructive ratings and citing surgical case volume growth near 20% and expanding EBITDA margins as offsets. The stock's 52-week range is $6.82 to $23.29.

Coursera and Kioxia, guidance over results

Coursera fell 8.6% pre-open to $4.26 despite beating on both lines, with adjusted EPS of $0.21 on revenue of $376.7m. The problem was the outlook: Q4 revenue guidance of $358m to $366m against roughly $373m consensus, plus early 2027 commentary signalling possible revenue declines and EBITDA headwinds as it integrates the $2.5bn Udemy acquisition. JPMorgan went to Neutral with a $5 target, KeyBanc to Sector Weight, Needham kept Buy but cut its target to $6 from $10 citing soft web traffic and consumer weakness reviving AI-disruption fears, and Telsey cut to $7 from $10. Kioxia tells a similar story in a different sector, down 7.1% to ¥13,470 after guiding fiscal Q3 operating profit to ¥2.0 trillion against ¥2.35 trillion expected, even with a Q2 beat and a first-ever ¥90 dividend. The company flagged NAND average selling price growth slowing sharply, and the piece adds that Kioxia carries the largest leveraged long overhang on the Tokyo exchange and that China's YMTC passed it in NAND shipment rankings in Q2 2026. UBS trimmed its target ahead of the print; Goldman Sachs kept Buy. The Nikkei fell 2.12% on the day, led by chip names.

MasTec, FTAI and First Busey

MasTec dropped 5.2% pre-open to $168.5 on adjusted EPS of $2.96, a penny short, despite record quarterly revenue of $5.2bn versus $4.94bn expected and up 30% year on year. The guidance did the damage: full-year adjusted EPS midpoint of $9.11 against $9.27 consensus. Communications revenue shrank 12% to $807m as customers deferred spending, while the 18-month backlog hit a record $24.5bn, up 46%, with Power Delivery backlog up 74%. CFO Paul DiMarco pointed to over $1bn of 2026 operating cash flow. Citigroup and Stifel Nicolaus had already trimmed targets ahead of the print. FTAI Aviation slid 2.8% pre-open, giving back the prior session's surge after Q3 EPS of $1.43 missed the $1.50 consensus and revenue of $977.66m fell short of $998.12m, offsetting record adjusted EBITDA of $348.3m, up 17% year on year, and a doubled buyback authorisation to $1.0bn including a $500m accelerated repurchase with RBC. First Busey slipped 0.8% to $29.25 after Raymond James cut it to Market Perform from Outperform, trimming its 2027 EPS estimate by 1.1% on slower loan growth, tighter margin and higher provisioning. Q3 adjusted EPS was $0.63 against $0.67, with a single $37.6m commercial relationship moved to non-accrual, a $10m partial charge-off and a $17.8m reserve pushing provision expense to $9.6m from $2.2m. Piper Sandler had already cut to Neutral with a $30 target earlier in October.

The names that went up

Symbotic rose 3.2% pre-open after Walmart signed an Enterprise Master Automation Agreement committing an initial $6bn to deploy its robotics across 25 US regional distribution centres plus select markets in the Americas, with a further $125m for next-generation racking R&D. The deal could add roughly $6.92bn to a backlog already at $22.5bn; Q4 and full-year results come November 23. Rocket Companies gained 3.1% on Q3 adjusted EPS of $0.15 against $0.14 and GAAP revenue of $3.28bn versus $2.59bn expected, with adjusted EBITDA of $748m and a 29% margin, the best in nearly five years. CEO Varun Krishna cited share gains in purchase and refinance with mortgage rates at a three-year high. Compass Point kept Buy but cut its target to $15 from $18 on soft Q4 guidance of $2.10bn to $2.30bn against $2.57bn. ExxonMobil rose 1.8% to $186.62 on adjusted EPS of $4.23 and adjusted earnings of $17.5bn, net profit more than doubling to $15.4bn. Energy Products earnings hit a record $9.05bn, up 120% sequentially, with the article attributing roughly $4.5bn of the quarter to refining margins blown out by conflict damage to Saudi and Russian refineries and the partial closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The dividend went up 3.9% to $1.07 and $20bn of 2027 buybacks were reaffirmed; Chevron beat on the same refining tailwind.

Smaller full-text items

Three short pieces round out the read-in-full set. Arbor reported Q3 EPS of -$0.04 against a $0.04 estimate, with revenue of $56.42m versus $112.99m consensus; the stock closed at $3.02 and is down 70% over twelve months. ChoiceOne Financial Services beat with EPS of $0.97 against $0.93 and revenue of $45.19m versus $44.48m. MSA Safety declared a fourth-quarter dividend of $0.54 per common share, payable December 10 to holders of record November 13, plus $0.5625 on preferred.

The rest of the feed

The remaining roughly 180 items are headline-only and mostly low-signal: a long run of Form 8-K filing notices, short "shares may move X% on earnings" previews for European names like Daimler Truck, IAG, Amadeus and Aperam, and a large volume of TradingView chart posts on gold, bitcoin, Nvidia and the indices. A few headline items are worth noting as stated: Wedbush upgraded DoorDash on the Instacart deal, Susquehanna raised its eBay target to $125, Canaccord downgraded Stryker on weak execution and a market slowdown, Viatris launched a tender offer for Pacira at $36.50 a share, Hilton Grand Vacations announced a $200m accelerated buyback, MDA Space won a contract worth over $100m for EU satellite antennas, and Canada's August GDP was flat with StatCan flagging a likely 0.1% September decline. Beyond that, nothing in the headline-only portion carries detail I can stand behind.
