Cleveland-Cliffs and the Stelco shutdown

The biggest single-name move in the feed is Cleveland-Cliffs, which fell 8.6% in afternoon trade to $11.14 after its wholly owned Canadian subsidiary Stelco told customers it will indefinitely idle cold-rolled and coated steel operations at Hamilton Works in Ontario, blaming an "unsustainable market" created by U.S. tariff-driven trade disruption. The customer letter was dated the same day and first reported by Bloomberg. Wind-down could begin as early as October 9, with roughly 350 steelworkers facing layoffs. Investing.com frames the severity as company-specific: Cliffs carries a debt-to-equity ratio above 137%, and it sits on both sides of the tariff line, protected as a U.S. producer under Section 232 but exposed as a Canadian operator through Stelco, which Nucor and Steel Dynamics are not. Domestic-only steel peers fell far less on the day. Morgan Stanley reaffirmed Hold on September 25 and Wells Fargo held the same stance days before; next earnings are October 19. A separate headline-only item covers the same Stelco story.

Risk-off tape, bond rout, metals dumped

The market backdrop threaded through several of these articles: S&P 500 down 0.76% at 7,684.98, Nasdaq off 0.92%, Dow down 0.67%, VIX up 8% to 16.06. Treasuries sold off, with the 10-year at 5.237% and the 2-year at 4.924%, both up more than 1%. Precious metals took the brunt, gold futures down 3.86% to 4,154 and silver down 5.60% to 61.17, with copper off 2.27%. Headline-only pieces attribute the equity weakness to an OpenAI training halt hitting the AI trade and to the bond rout extending, with Goldman noting S&P 500 breadth at its lowest since the dot-com bubble and Nvidia funding a $150 billion buyback. A Kitco headline cites SocGen on gold losing its 200-day moving average. Among individual names in the quote tables, ARM fell 8.70%, DoorDash 7.74%, Qualcomm 7.17%, Boeing 6.89%, Intel 5.67% and Meta 4.79%, while Nvidia rose 1.68%.

Monster Beverage leadership gap

Monster Beverage fell 2.9% to $41.87. The stated reason is the resignation of Rob Gehring, CEO of the Americas division, Monster's largest region, effective November 30, to become president of Coca-Cola's North America unit. Chief Strategy Officer Emelie Tirre takes the role on an interim basis from December 1. The article ties the selling to that leadership gap landing on top of an already elevated valuation, with analysts split on whether growth, including a 20%-plus revenue increase in Q2 2026 and a jump in international sales, supports the multiple. The stock sits about 17% below its 52-week high of $50.17.

Three 52-week lows

Three separate 52-week-low pieces ran, all AI-generated Investing.com items duplicated across the UK and US editions. Ormat Technologies hit $90.58, 38% below its $146.39 high, with a $5.58 billion market cap and a one-year change of -4.98%; the article gives no specific cause, citing broad economic and sector pressure, and recaps a split analyst view, Oppenheimer raising its target to $145 on 2030 profitability goals and a large Enhanced Geothermal project, Jefferies cutting to $104 from $117 on a higher cost of equity while keeping Hold, and Bernstein upgrading to Market Perform with a $112 target on valuation. Ormat guided to $1.05 billion of 2030 EBITDA at its Analyst Day, above Jefferies and consensus. Millrose Properties hit $26.30, down 21.91% over a year, with an 11.62% dividend yield and a P/E of 10; Q2 came in at $0.76 per diluted share on revenue of $195.4 million against a $190.4 million forecast, and the dividend was raised for a sixth straight quarter. SBA Communications hit $162.40, 28% off its $224.46 high and down 12.4% year to date, after Q2 EPS of $1.87 on revenue of $715.27 million beat estimates of $1.84 and $705.65 million, with guidance nudged up and buybacks set to restart in the second half of 2026. Citizens has Market Perform at $280, BMO Market Perform at $200. None of the three articles identifies a same-day catalyst.

Chart and filing noise

A fair chunk of the full-text reads are low-substance. Tesla closed down 3.96% at $357.36, and an Investing.com technical piece describes it trading below its 5-hour Ichimoku cloud and both the 50 and 200-period moving averages, with an 85% complete head-and-shoulders and neckline support at $354. Two Nasdaq screens note the iShares MSCI Israel ETF crossing below its $122.30 200-day average while down 1.6%, and the ProShares Ultra SmallCap600 ETF crossing below $31.95 while down 3.2%; a third on the Brazil ETF is dated April 2022, not current. Two Form filings were read and contain nothing beyond the headline, a Zumiez Form 4 and an M&T Bank 8-K, though the Zumiez page tags the stock at +6.24%. Several TradingView posts were pulled in full and are self-published trade setups rather than news: two separate authors calling gold lower from around 4,133 toward 4,000, and one mapping DOGE resistance at roughly $0.12, $0.135 and $0.155.

Headline-only items worth knowing exist

The rest is headline-only. Boeing slid 6% on a headline saying the FAA halted Max 10 certification, with 31% of undelivered orders described as at risk. MongoDB shares fell as CEO Desai stepped down and Ittycheria returned. Pfizer, BioNTech and Moderna lost a bid to dismiss a Bayer patent case. Blockchain.com is reported by Bloomberg to be eyeing a $500 million IPO at up to a $6 billion valuation. Soybean futures fell on a US-China deal that excludes the crop, corn fell on that weakness plus a stronger dollar, and coffee saw short covering on dry Brazil forecasts. Elsewhere there are scattered broker notes (Morgan Stanley cutting Lightspeed to $9.50, Jefferies trimming Kodiak Sciences, Citizens raising Mirum on HDV data, Truist on Inventiva, Raymond James on Vir), a large volume of Investing.com live-levels technical pages, ex-dividend reminders, and a long tail of TradingView chart posts. Nothing in that group carries detail beyond the one line shown.
